During the 70's he was a volunteer firefighter with the Barren Springs Fire Department. Raising cattle and maintaining the family farm was his passion. There were never enough hours in the day.
He enjoyed bluegrass music and never missed The Galax Old-Time Fiddler's Convention. Bill Monroe was his hero. He may not have known his family recently, but he sure knew who Bill was.
His motto was always "more is better". If a recipe called for 2 cups of sugar. He allotted 3. He fertilized the yard so often you could literally watch the grass grow. His chainsaw was just an extension of his arm. Fence building, harvesting the hay field and stacking firewood were just a fun game. His "church" was The Farm.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 8, 2018 at Charity Primitive Baptist Church with Rev. Don Singleton officiating.
Burial will follow in the Pickett Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Hillsville VFW Grover King Post 1115.
