Jonathan H. Newcomer
Mr. John H. Newcomer, a highly respected-citizen of the Pipe creek community, died Tuesday evening at 7 o'clock, after an illness of several months. Mr. Newcomer was 77 years old, and had lived in this county fifty-two years. He is survived by his wife and six children, Jonathan Newcomer, Johnnie Newcomer, Mrs. Bob Gray, Mrs. Sylva Odem, Miss Mabel Newcomer and Miss Harriet Newcomer. Funeral services were conducted at the Pipe Creek cemetery yesterday afternoon by J. M. Hunter.
The passing of this pioneer citizen fills our hearts with sadness, for it but reminds us that the men and women who helped to blaze the way for the splendid civilization which we today enjoy are leaving us. Mr. Newcomer was a quiet, peaceful citizen, and during the more than half a century which he spent in this county his life was as an open book. He leaves his descendants the heritage of a good name, and to oncoming generations an example that all may follow.
