Gary W. "Punk" Fondren died May 6, 2007, in Maben. Services were held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Meadowview Baptist Church in Starkville with the Rev. Steve Galloway officiating. A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. at Double Springs Methodist Church Cemetery. Welch Funeral Home of Starkville was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Fondren was a retired policeman with Mississippi State University and a member of Double Springs Baptist Church. He is survived by his son, Steve Fondren of Starkville; sister, Kathleen Briggs of Mathiston; brothers, Waymon Fondren of Mathiston, Wayne Fondren of Oxford, John Fondren of Starkville and Buck Fondren of Columbus; and two grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Double Springs Methodist Church Care Fund.
