Georgia A. “Dolly” Grooms, 75, of Piketon, Ohio, went home to her Lord and Savior on September 10, 2018 at her residence. She was born October 26, 1942 in the old stone house in Jasper, Ohio to the late George C. Cutler and Ethel A. Sizemore-Cutler.
Dolly married Paul Elijah Grooms on November 11, 1961 and shared 52 years together before his passing. In that time, they raised their children and took a tremendous role in the lives of their grandchildren.
She was always active in her life, loving to boogie and ride her shuttle around Piketon. She was an avid softball player, dominating the women’s league until she was 46 years young.
Dolly came from a family who took great care of each other: her sister Kathleen acting as a second mother and Joan always making sure Dolly had nice clothes. She continued this tradition with her own family to her very last moment. She invested her heart and soul in her grandchildren.
Dolly is preceded in death by her sisters Kathleen “Sissy” Cutler-Daily, Joan Cutler-Grooms, Mary “Grumpy” Cutler-Hunton; nieces and nephews, Tammy Howard-Fisher, Pamela Cutler, Willis Jo Grooms, and Timothy Howard; son, Paul David Grooms; and husband, Paul Elijah Grooms.
She is survived by a sister; two sons; eight grandchildren; two step grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and her best friend/sister, Kay.
Dolly was a member of Piketon Community Church for 20 years, and she remained strong in her faith to the very end. She will be dearly missed by all who have known her.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 14, 2018, at the HOWE WHEELER BOYER HORNBACK FUNERAL HOME in Piketon with Pastor Alan Newberry, Officiating. Burial will follow in the Mound Cemetery, Piketon, Ohio.
