Emma Elizabeth (Ellison) Maxwell, 92 years, 3 months and 27 days, died on Thursday, August 30, 2018, at Northhaven Assisted Living in Oklahoma City. The family will greet friends on Tuesday, September 4, from 12 to 1:45 p.m. before the funeral services at Kiowa Church of Christ. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 4, at Kiowa Church of Christ with Danny Huntsman officiating, assisted by Ronald Caldwell, son-in-law. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery in McAlester. Emma was born on May 3, 1926, in the Union Chapel Community. She was the daughter of Noah E. and Laura E. (Dobyns) Ellison. She married Chester D. Maxwell on November 25, 1946, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She lived most of her life in the Kiowa and Pittsburg area. She resided at Northhaven Assisted Living in Oklahoma City from August 2013 until the present. She graduated from Pittsburg High School in May 1944. From 1944 to 1946 she taught school at Plainview, with a War Time Certificate.
After all her children were in school, she went to work at the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant in 1966 and retired with 21 years and 3 months as a fork lift operator (materials handler) leader.
She was a loving wife and mother and enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an avid seamstress and gardener. She was a member of Kiowa Church of Christ.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Rosarita Maxwell, of Kiowa, and Ricky and Joyce Maxwell, of Dodd City, Texas; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Ronald Caldwell, of Chandler, and Tammy and Charles Northcraft, of Oklahoma City; seven grandchildren, Rhonda and Neil Goddard, of Edmond, Kimberly and Matt Hall, of Edmond, Chad and Marietta Caldwell, of Edmond, Cody and Logan Maxwell. of Savoy, Texas, Callie and Dustin Pittman, of Whitewright, Texas, Cory and Mary Northcraft, of Edmond, and Preston Northcraft, of Oklahoma City; nine great-grandchildren, Garrett, Grace and Hudson Goddard, Maxwell "Max" and Ellison "Ellie" Hall, Liv and Crew Caldwell, Shepherd Maxwell and Haven Northcraft; one sister, Margie Vawter, of Irving, Texas; a sister-in-law, Pauline (Myers) Ellison, of Pittsburg, several nieces and nephews. Emma was preceded in death by her husband, Chester D. Maxwell; parents, Noah and Laura Ellison; a sister, Barbara Daniel, and two brothers, William "Bill" Ellison and Elbert Ellison. Serving as pallbearers will be Robert Daniel, Dwayne Shores, Dub Sartor, Dan Isom, Ricky Christman, Larry Christman and Wade Daniel. Honorary pallbearers will be Chad Caldwell, Cody Maxwell, Cory Northcraft, Preston Northcraft, Neil Goddard, Matt Hall, Dustin Pittman, Garrett Goddard, Maxwell "Max" Hall, Hudson Goddard, Crew Caldwell and Shepherd Maxwell.
