Arvel’s faith became sight on Wednesday, August 22, 2018, at Windermere of Cartmell Assisted Living. Arvel was 96 years old and lived a full life. He was a loving patriarch who took great care of his family and has finished the race well. Arvel was born July 26, 1922, in Elkhart, Texas, and graduated from Cayuga High School in 1940. In 1943, Arvel joined the United States Airforce and married Ella McGowan. After the war with Japan ended, Arvel earned an accounting degree and eventually became a partner and the manager of Mobile Well Service. He and Ella raised their five children in Palestine, and Arvel also started several successful business enterprises with his four sons and son-in-law. Arvel enjoyed entrepreneurship, country dinners, and reading about history. He was a great encourager and wanted to see others become all they could be. Arvel believed the best book for success in business is the book of Proverbs. Arvel was a humble, generous and honorable man, and he will be remembered for his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Arvel is preceded in death by his wife, Ella, his parents, his three brothers and four sisters.
Pallbearers will be Arvel’s eldest great grandsons, John Harris, Caleb Harris, Luke Harris, Trae Weber, Harris Weber and Kade Wellborn.
Services for Arvel Harris will be Saturday, September 1, 2018, at 3:30 PM at Evangelistic Temple, located at 3011 N. Loop 256, in Palestine with grandson, Jason Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Park.
