Peter Roughley, son of Peter and Mary Maria (Marland) Roughley, was born 2 February 1846 in Up Holland, Lancashire. He was christened 15 March 1846 at the Church of St Thomas the Martyr in Up Holland. He married (1) Charlotte Beatrice Corner (1846-1886) on 23 June 1868 at the Church of St. Catherine, Wigan, Lancashire. They had three children before her death in 1886. Married (2) Annie (Hankin) Wade in the July-September quarter 1886 in the Ormskirk, Lancashire, Registration District. She had two children from her first marriage, and Peter and Annie had five children of their own. Peter initially followed the family practice and was a coal miner, but by 1881, he was a "licensed victualler" (the keeper of a pub) and his family were living in Ormskirk. Peter's last wife was identified as the keeper of the Greyhound Inn, a public house at 100 Aughton Street in Ormskirk. The Greyhound Inn was still operating at that address in Ormskirk in the early 21st century, long after Peter Roughley went on to his reward. Annie Roughley was living in 1904, but we have not found a death date or burial place for her.
