PVT John "Wichterman" enlisted August 18, 1861 for 3 years. Mustered as waggoner, captured October 8th, 1862 at Lawrenceburg Kentucky, returned to company April 8th, 1863. John Frantz Wichterman was married to Sarah DeBolt on June 22, 1851 in Wyandot Co., Ohio. They were married by her father, Reverend Silas DeBolt. His son, George R. DeBolt gave oath in the marriage license that John F. Wichterman was over 21 yrs. and Sarah(his sister) was over 16 yrs.

Private John F. Wichterman served in Company G, 49th Ohio Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War. (The same unit his DeBolt brother in laws served in.) He received a pension, a record showing his middle name of Frantz, his mother's maiden name.

Their granddaughter, Maude May Westerman died at the age of 101 years! She gave a tribute in memory of her beloved grandparents in an Honorarium published on May 28, 1955 in the North Tonawanda Evening Newspaper, page 14. This records the dates of death for both grandparents.

Special Note: The family Surname Wichterman was modifed as Westerman, Weichterman, Wickburn, and Wisterman etc. in various census records.
