She was born Jan. 18, 1945, in Parsons and is preceded in death by her father, John W. Kliewer, and her mother, Marie F. Kliwer.
She is survived by her sister, Sue M. Robison of Shawnee; her brother, Douglas M. Kliewer of Moberly, Missouri; three nephews, Cole D. Robison of Lawrence, Daniel J. Kliewer of Kansas City, Missouri, and Matthew T. Kliewer of Columbia, Missouri; a niece, Cari L. Chapman of Lenexa; and three grandnieces.
Kay graduated from St. Mary’s of the Plains College, Dodge City, and earned a master in religious education at Loyola University in New Orleans. Her teaching career began in 1967 at Stony Point North in Kansas City, Kansas, for four years and was followed by 35 years at St. Joseph Grade School, Shawnee. During her teaching career she touched the hearts and minds of generations of families. She retired in 2007.
She was a longtime member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Shawnee, where she was quite active singing in the choir as well as volunteering with Turnstyles Catholic Charities and Animal Haven.
Kay enjoyed reading, crafting and counted cross-stitch. She loved her dogs, Tanner and Brewski, and her travels to France, Italy, Ireland, Canada and across the United States.
The funeral Mass will at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Visitation will be before Mass from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Her ashes will be interred at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Parsons.
Kay’s wishes included a request for memorial contributions in lieu of flowers to go to Good Shepherd Music Ministry, Crossroads Hospice of Lenexa and Wayside Waifs.
