Our Mother, Barbara Geraldine Kemp, 85, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 12, 2018. She lived most of her life in Muncie, IN, after moving north with family at a young age. She was born in Armithwaite, TN, (outside Jamestown) to Fount and Mary Lackey.

Barbara had a green thumb (like her mom) and enjoyed working in her flower gardens and loved making her famous oatmeal cookies or hitting the local yard sales in town. She worked many years at local flea markets and enjoyed the treasures she would find and the people she met.

She was a graduate of The Institute of Children's Literature, and earned many awards for her writing like "The Picnic Basket" that was awarded the President's Award for Excellence in 1994 and The Golden Poet Award from the World of Poetry in 1989. She loved to write and had the ability to pull you into her stories that was truly amazing.

She was predeceased by her Mother, Mary Lackey, of Muncie; Father, Fount Lackey of Muncie; and her Brothers, Paul, Clarence, O'Dell, and Harry; Sisters, Pearl, Ruby, Dorothy, and Janice. Also one infant sibling that passed during childbirth.

She is survived by two sisters, Retha Bell and Nella Lowery, who will miss her dearly. She is also survived by her son, Rex; daughters, Pamela, Wanda, Debbie, and Bobbi. She will be missed by her nine grandchildren; she was happily blessed with many great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Family and friends may call from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Tuesday at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Jones Cemetery.
