Irving J. Gannett, 85, died on Tuesday afternoon, September 29, 959 at his home in North Street, Mexico after suffering a heart attack Sunday. He had been in frail health for several years but had been able to be about.
Mr. Gannett was born January 22, 1874, in Fox Hill, N.Y., the son of Lewis and Marietta Thompkins Gannett. The greater part of his life however had been spent in in the vicinity of Mexico, where for many years he was a farmer. He later moved to Mexico where he purchased the Dolph Grocery Store, which he conducted for about 30 years.
He was twice married, in 1898 to Olive Kenyon of Grafton Square and in 1942 to Mary Ellen Burlingame of Adams.
Mrs. Gannett died 3 1/2 years ago and since that time he has
made his home with his daughter.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Harold (Gladys) Dunning of Mexico; Miss Catherine A. Gananett of Dunkirk; Mrs. Richard (Ruth) Norton of New Albany, Penna.; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Etta Cady of Syracuse.
He was a member of Mexico Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m., Friday from
the Miner Funeral Home, Washington Street. Rev. Robert E. Pennock, pastor of the Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will be in Mexico Village Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home, Wednesday evening 7-9 and Thursday 2-4 and 7-9
