Max Shepherd, 71, of Wolcottville died Sunday, July 8, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at his residence.

He was born May 13, 1947, in Hueysville, Kentucky, to Willie and Susan (Conley) Shepherd.

On August 1, 1969, in Garrett, Kentucky, he married Elva Lea Whitaker.

He honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, having served in Vietnam.

Mr. Shepherd was a tool maker for A-1 Production in Kendallville for 27 years and Citation Corporation in Albion for 15 years.

Max enjoyed flower and fruit gardening, mushroom hunting, and going to Kentucky every fall to hunt ginseng. He also enjoyed squirrel hunting when he was younger.

Surviving are his wife, Elva Shepherd of Wolcottville; two sons, Chris B. Shepherd of Wolcottville and Clay B. Shepherd of LaGrange; two granddaughters, Kihla Shepherd and Logann Shepherd; three grandsons, Cain Shepherd, Cole Shepherd, and Cace Shepherd; three sisters, Madeline Patrick of Albion, Michigan, Sharon (Allen) Chaffins of Hueysville, Kentucky, and Ruby Crager of Hindman, Kentucky; and a brother, Marvin (Janet) Shepherd of Hueysville, Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Norman Shepherd, Arthur Shepherd, Jack Shepherd, Mitchell Shepherd, and Calley Shepherd; and four sisters, Mabel Shepherd, Mary Little, Marie Taylor, and Wanda Hutchinson.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 12, 2018, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 100 Cemetery Street, Wolcottville.

Additional visitation will be Saturday, July 14, 2018, from 6 to 10 p.m. at Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, 7 Clinic Drive, Martin, Kentucky.

Funeral services will be Sunday, July 15, 2018, at 12:30p.m. at Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.

Burial in Shepherd Cemetery on Salt Lick Road.
