Marinus Verrips was born on September 20th 1959 at Pella Iowa, and died at his home in Boyden on Thursday October 30, 1924, at the age of 66 years and 1 month after an illness of several weeks duration.

Funeral services were held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the First Reformed church of Boyden, with Rev J. M. Lumkes, pastor of the church officiating, assisted by Dr. W. T. McConnell and Rev. H. M. Veenschoten.

Deceased came to Sioux County at the age of 24. Four years afterwards in the year of 1886, he made confession of his faith in Christ and became a member of the Reformed church.

On the fifth day of March, 1889 he was untied in marriage to Miss Maggie Nieuwendorp. The first year of his married life he resided on a farm north of Boyden then three years north of Orange City, 23 years on the home farm southeast of Boyden, and the remainder of his life he lived in town.

Eight children were born to this union. The eldest daughter, Mrs. Dethmers, died on Dec 8th 1918.

The surviving children are Mrs. James Smit, Mrs. Hubert Kleyne, Mrs. Ike Dethmers of Hull, Cora Maggarena Mrs. John Van Wyk of Hull, and Marion, besides these children he is survived by his wife, and brothers Anthony, living near Boyden, and five step brothers and four step-sisters residing at Pella, Iowa, and his aged step mother.

Mr. Verrips was a man of sterling Christian character and was well and favorably known in this community. He was a loving father and husband. Truth was the inspiration of his life, and by kindness he exemplified its great worth.

The relatives from out of town who attended the funeral are as follows: Mr. and Mrs. Dick Niewendorp, Mr. and Mrs. Jake Reuvers, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Van Heemert, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Niewendorp. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Niewendorp, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Van Beek, Mr. and Mrs. C. Kleinwolterink, Mr. Jake Niewendorp and daughter Mr. and Mrs. John reuvers and four children, and Mr. George Boerhave , all of Sheldon, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Sol of Alton; Mrs. L. Vander Streek and son of Pella. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Smit of Alton; Mrs. Robt Smith, of Archer; and Mr. Jake Niewendorp of Rock Rapids and Henry Reuvers of Sheldon
