The former Gertrude Verrips was born at Orange City, March 18, 1892. She married James Smit February 22, 1912, at Boyden. He preceded her in death in 1964.
Survivors include a son, Alvin; three sisters, Cora and Mrs. John Vander Haar and Mrs. John Van Wyk; a brother, Marion; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
