Mae Louise Heinrich was born March 22, 1921 in Kent, WA to Nick and Olga (Sorensen) Knapstad. Nick Immigrated from Norway and Olga’s parents were from Denmark. Mae was the oldest of the five children, followed by Howard, Leonard, Helen, and Glenn.
Mae married Leonard Marion Kittle May 16, 1945 in San Francisco, CA. Together they had four children, Noreen (Frank), Daryl (Carol), Marcille and Laura Lee. They later divorced.
In December of 1970, Mae married George Heinrich. They enjoyed life together and were wonderful grandparents to their 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. George preceded her in death in 2006.
In 2015 Mae moved to Surprise, Arizona and was cared for by granddaughter Jill and her family until her passing.
Mae is survived by her four children, 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter, her namesake Harley Mae, her sister Helen Bennett, brother Glenn Knapstad, and many nieces and nephews.
Mae led an active and healthy life. She loved traveling, good food, crafting, thrift stores and shoes. She had a wonderful sense of humor, declaring that “her elevator still goes to the top.” She loved to say that she lived her life like the Sinatra song “I Did it My Way!"
