Son of Susan Austin and John Cloud Grubbs. Married Madelia N. Nealley in Oregon on April 16, 1871. Father of Frank, Ilsie Elma, Eugenia Ethelwyn, Leroy, and Zea Genevieve Grubbs. Drowned while on the river in a skiff, duck hunting. Though a good swimmer, when his boat overturned he was laden with a hunting vest filled with cartridges and heavy boots. His body was recovered a month later.
