The sad news reached Fairbury Sunday morning of the drowning of Chas. Algert (sic), the seventeen year old son of Chris Algert (sic), who lives near Gladstone. A number of young fellows were in the Little Blue bathing. Charley got into an eddy and was sucked under and all attempts to rescue him were fruitless. He was considered the best swimmer in that locality and his associates did not realize danger until he was most gone. There was no coroner's inquest held as Coroner Dodge was not notified of the incident until the body had been laid to rest in the Gladstone Cemtry (sic).
The funeral took place at Gladstone on Sunday and was preached by Rev Tester.
