Fredrich Elgert died at his home in Gladstone, Nebr., Thursday, May 31, 1934, at the age of 80 years, 11 mos., and 2 days.
Mr. Elgert was born in West Prussia, Germany, June 29, 1853. On Oct. 13, 1867, he was confirmed in the land of his birth. He came to America in 1871 to LaSalle, Ill., where he was married to Miss Augusta Fradurei (sic) in 1873. To this union was born eleven children. Four sons, Carl, Albert, Fred and Daniel preceded their father in death. His wife died July 30, 1897, and he was married on April 5, 1899 to Mrs. Margaretha George of Gilead, Nebr. She died April 30, 1933. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Fred Schoen and Mrs. Oren (sic) Junker of Gladstone, and Mrs. Hiddle Meyers (sic) of Fairbury; four sons Phillip of Trenton, Mo., Henry of Reynolds, John and Adolph of Fairbury; 35 grandchildren and 14 great grand children and one younger brother, August of Rich Hill, Mo., To the five step-children in his household; Mrs. Henry Junker, Henry George, Dick George, Mrs. Lena Bandemer and Mrs. Anna Schliem he was kind, affectionate and fatherly.
Mr. Elgert and his family lived in LaSalle, Ill., for about 10 years and came to Jefferson county in 1882 and located on a farm northeast of Glastone until 1909, when they moved to Gladstone. He was a resident of that community where he made his home for over a half century. He was a charter member of the Zion church congregation of that community and served as a member of the council for some years.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, June 3, at the East Evangelical church near Gladstone conducted by Rev. Henning. Interment in the cemetery there.
