Donald C. Bachman, 92, of Tipton, formerly of Davenport, passed away Friday, June 8, 2018, at Prairie Hills Assisted Living in Tipton.

There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to the Clarence American Legion Post #286 in his memory. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, is in charge of the arrangements.

Private family graveside services will be held. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois.

Donald Clair Bachman was born April 21, 1926, in Cedar County, near Clarence, the son of Frederick and Edith (Hammond) Bachman. His mother passed away when he was 10 years old. He was then raised by his father and step-mother, Florence (Heldt) Schneckloth. He graduated from Clarence High School in 1944. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, primarily stationed in Guam. Following his discharge from service, he returned to Clarence. He married Marguerite Ruth McCaw on September 20, 1947, in Clarence. They were the parents of four children. Donald and Marquerite were later divorced. He married Alta Annaliese (Hansen) Dickson on October 26, 1972, in Davenport. Donald and Alta were later divorced. He farmed with his father on their farm north of Clarence, milking cows, raising shorthorn cattle and growing grain. He later became employed with Surge Milking Equipment Company and then worked for the Hartz Mountain Pet Supply distributor in the Quad Cities, until he retired. He later became a resident of Prairie Hills Assisted Living in Tipton. He was a lifelong member of the Clarence American Legion and the Moose Lodge, Davenport. He enjoyed playing golf. Above all, he loved the time he spent with his family.

Surviving are two daughters, Sherry (Ross) Beller of Loveland, CO, and Debra Atkinson of Boulder, CO; two sons, Don Alan (Julie) Bachman of Reinbeck and Jon Jay (Kelly) Bachman of Cedar Falls; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley Stollsteimer of Hot Springs, AR, and Corrinne Atkins of Clarence; and one half brother, William (Karen) Bachman of Clarence.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother, three brothers-in-law, John Freeman, Dale Stollsteimer and Ronald Atkins and one half brother, David Bachman.
