Charles Roy Ammons, age 76, passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at Memorial Mission Hospital.

Charles was a native of Haywood County and was the son of the late, Roy and Eva Inman Ammons.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Rosie Ammons and one brother, Ray Ammons.

Charles was the owner and operator of Ammons Drive-In for over 30 years. A Haywood County institution, Charles took pride in providing great food at a reasonable price. He cherished the relationships developed over the years in his restaurant, leaving behind a legacy of laughter and love.

Charles was also an avid fly-fisherman who loved fishing for native trout throughout these beautiful mountains. He also took joy in playing all the wonderful golf courses in the area. In the end, Charles heart and soul belonged to his family and he will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Dorothy Ammons; son, Terry Ammons, of Timberlake, North Carolina; daughter, Catherine “Cat” Ammons, of Waynesville; step-daughter, Kathy Sitton and her husband, Matt, of Clyde; step-son, Billy McMullen, and his wife, Kandi, of Clyde; one brother, Roger Ammons and his wife, Kathy, of Sylva; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 14, 2018 at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park with the Reverend Phillip Wyatt officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. prior to the graveside service at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
