Donald Joseph Fuchs, 64, of Phillips, former Catawba resident, died Sunday, June 12, 2011, at Aspirus Pleasant View Nursing Home, Phillips, under the care of Flambeau Home Health and Hospice.

He was born July 21, 1946, in Ladysmith; the son of George and Esther (Droese) Fuchs.

He was a 1964 graduate of Phillips High School.

He married Virginia Retzlaff on May 31, 1969.

He operated a dairy farm in Catawba until 1988. In 1986 he took a part-time position at Marquip, Inc. which became full time in 1988.

He was a member of St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church, Phillips, served on the Phillips School Board, was a member of the Catawba Volunteer Fire Department, and was active in starting the Father Leon Schloemer Knights of Columbus Council in Catawba, which he served as Grand Knight for many years

In 1993, he and his wife moved to Phillips, where he became active in the Phillips Father John P. Slowey Knights of Columbus Council No. 2963. He was also active as a 4th Degree Member of the Father Otto Weber Knights of Columbus Council.

He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, hunting, and fishing with them and watching them participate in sports.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia; four children, Scott (Sarah) of Kaukauna, Tammy (Mike) Duwe of Sayner, Larry (Phelicia) of Janesville, and Rick of Menomonie; seven loving grandchildren, Pricilla Hintz, Matt Poetzl, Blake Fuchs, Paige Fuchs, Jeremiah Poetzl, Gage Fuchs, and Bryn Fuchs; and 10 brothers and sisters, Arlene Arquette of Catawba; Georger Jr. (Jean) Fox of Racine, Clarence Fox of Mukwanago, Betty (Howard) Otto of Kennan, Clara Blaskowski of Hawkins, Lorraine Hause of Bloomer, Florence Kosterman of Phillips, Marge Nierope of Port Washington, Paul (Donna) Fuchs of Ladysmith, and Mildred (Charlie) Cicha of Tony.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, Derek Poetzl; his parents; two sisters, Dorothy Lallemont and Martha Bauer; and two brothers, Bob and Bill.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 16, at St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church, Phillips, with Father Ron Levra celebrating the funeral Mass.

Interment will be in the St. Patrick Cemetery.

The Parish Wake Service was held at the Heindl Funeral Home in Phillips at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 15, with Knights of Columbus services to follow.

The Heindl Funeral Home, Phillips, is assisting the family with arrangements.
