He was born Nov. 24, 1925, at Barnard, Indiana, to the late Ernest and Inez (Coons) Delano.
attended New Market High School and on Jan. 22, 1944, at Lafayette, he married the love of his life, Beverly Jean (Cope) Delano, who preceded him in death Jan. 24, 1993. Albert proudly served in the United States Army 397th Infantry during World War II and was a Prisoner of War. He was the post master in New Market for more than 40 years and was a member of the New Market Baptist Church, Crawfordsville American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was always tinkering in his garage and enjoyed working on lawn mowers, small engines, fishing and loved to always help others out.
He is survived by three sons, Tom Delano, Steve (Deborah) Delano and Tad (Vickie) Delano; daughter Jeanise (Paul McMahon) Delano; brother Loyal Buzzy (Patsy) Delano; sister Sissy Sherman; 13 grandchildren, Kiah, Tyler, Natasha (J.P), Andrea (Tim), Brandy, Brittney, Taylor, Delaine, Zane, Todd, Kiel (Brittany), Renee and Troy (Theresa); 24 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Beverly; nine siblings; two grandsons; and one great-grandson.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday, May 3 at Sanders Priebe Funeral Care (formerly Powers-Priebe Funeral Home), 315 S. Washington St., Crawfordsville. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 4 at the funeral home, with Pastor Mike Wren officiating. Burial will follow at Indian Creek Cemetery with military rites provided by the United States Army and Crawfordsville American Legion.
