Bernita K. (Urban) Schloemer-Clair, 83, Ellinwood, died Monday, April 27, 2015, at Ellinwood District Hospital, Ellinwood. She was born Dec. 27, 1931, in Rush County to Wendelin and Rosemary (Leiker) Urban.

She married Millard Schloemer on June 20, 1954, in Great Bend. He preceded her in death Feb. 22, 1982. She later married Ural G. "Jack" Clair on Dec. 7, 1990, in Ellinwood. She was a secretary for USD 403 in Bison and was an operator at Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. in La Crosse.

She was a 1949 graduate of La Crosse High School. She was a membership of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Altar Society, Twilight Quilting Guild, Ellinwood Hospital Auxiliary, Sunflower Polka Club, and was a Cub Scout leader.

Survivors include her husband, Ellinwood; a son, Mark Schloemer and wife, Faith, Bison; three stepsons, Gary Clair and wife, Jean, Great Bend, Larry Clair and Debbie Tammen, and Kevin Clair and wife, Gina, all of Ellinwood; a stepdaughter, Janice Birzer and husband, Steve, Ellinwood; a brother, Norbert Urban and wife, Elsie, La Crosse; four sisters, Edna Giebler and husband, Kenneth, Hays, Luceda Hager, Lyons, Doris Armstrong, Springfield, Mo., and Charlene Kreutzer and husband, Robert, Great Bend; a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Urban, La Crosse; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Justin Urban; a sister, Alice Heeps; and two brothers-in-law, Johnny Hager and Arlin Armstrong.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ellinwood; burial will follow at 2 p.m. in La Crosse City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday, with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at Minnis Chapel, Ellinwood. An Altar Society rosary will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, followed by a vigil at 7 p.m., both at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association or Ellinwood EMS in care of the funeral home.
