Berl Melvin Humphries, 86, widower of Iris H. Humphries of Raphine, VA, took the last two steps and held God’s hand as he entered his forever home Wednesday April 25, 2018.

He was born January 10, 1932 in Greenville, VA, son of Melvin and Rosie Humphries.

He started his life as a meat cutter but found his talent in carpentry and was a master carpenter who built many homes and several churches. During his life, he loved to fish and hunted with many throughout the years. He loved country and gospel music and would light in to a song for anyone who would listen.

In addition to his wife Iris, he was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers; a sister; and son-in-law, Herbie.

He is survived by his daughter, Deborah H. Eavers; his grandson, who he loved and was so proud of, Adam and his wife Heather Eavers; and the joys of his heart, great-grandsons, Jacob and Benson; sisters, Doris Back and Ann (Bob) Branch; and much loved nieces and nephews on the Humphries and Harris family tree.

A memorial service will be conducted Saturday April 28, 2018 at 3:00 PM in Calvary United Methodist Church, Stuarts Draft, by Rev. Charlie Reynolds and Rev. Nancy Vaughn. Interment will be private at Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Rob Marsh and his staff for their wonderful care, and Berl’s Calvary Church family for their love
