"Walter Lay, 42, well known resident of Somerset, died Saturday at the McDowell Hospital in Danville following a short illness. Funeral services were held Monday morning at the East Somerset Church, the Rev. Smallwood officiating. Interment was in the Tanner cemetery.

He was born in this county May 55, 1904* and was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Brent Lay. He was well and favorably known throughout this and adjoining counties and his death has caused a pall of gloom to descend over a wide circle of friends and relatives. He was a devoted husband and father and will be sadly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Zula Eaton Lay, seven children, Josephine, Edward, Sybil Marie, William Brent, Shirley, and Henry Lee, all of Somerset, and Mrs. Frances Loveless of Shelbyville, Ind.; three brothers, Fred, Louis, and Marion Lay, all of Somerset; and a sister, Mrs. Cordia Shephard, of Somerset."
