Robert Calvin Camp, 86, died peacefully Tuesday, April 17, 2018 in Tallahassee. The youngest of ten children, Bobby was born in Faceville, Georgia on June 16, 1931 to Reverend Arthur Calvin Camp and Sallie Hendley Camp.
Bobby graduated from Leon High School and went on to obtain a degree in Economics from Florida State University in 1957.A veteran of the United States Army, he served two years in Japan from 1952 to 1954. Shortly thereafter, in 1955, he and brother in law Paul Hunt established Central Heating Consultants which was franchised by General Electric in 1955 and remains in business today.
After Central Heating was sold in 1992, he and brother Spurgeon founded C & C Developers, a well-known provider of residential developments and office buildings. Bobby’s business acumen, integrity and passion for helping people sustained his involvement in real estate and development throughout the remainder of his years.
Serving God and those in need, Bobby lived and walked his Christian faith in every demonstrable way. Deacon of Bradfordville First Baptist Church and long time Sunday school teacher, he was involved in worship activities as well as the church’s building and new sanctuary committees. He was founding member and trustee of St. Teresa Beach Community Church where he organized the first service held there on Easter Sunday of 1976.
Also a lover of the Florida State Seminoles, he served as Booster chairman in 1979-80 and several years as a board member for both the football and baseball programs. He also served on the YMCA board and TCC Foundation board. He was Vice Chairman of TMH Diabetes board, and a member of the Beachcombers Club.
Bobby is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Mary Dupree Camp. He also leaves behind four children, Molly Thornal (Mike), Robert Calvin Camp, Jr.,Richard Camp (Irma), all of Tallahassee, and Mary Jane (Sue) Portwood (Matt) of McDonough; grandchildren Merritt Thornal Newell (Mike) of Tallahassee, Warren Thornal (Carrie) of Greenville, South Carolina, Maggie, Cole and Conley Camp, Georgia and John Portwood, and great grandchildren Molly Cate and Virginia Price Newell.
He is predeceased by his parents, two cherished grandchildren, Wilson Thornal and Price Thornal, and all his siblings, Karia Barrier, Hazel Carter, Hettie Cobb, Joe Camp, Spurgeon Camp, Mary Nell Hunt, Martha Langley and Margaret Camp.
The family would like to thank the loving and devoted staff at Westminster Oaks, especially Cynthia, Vi, Sadie and Mary.
