Obituary-Sylvia J. Portwood, 91, died Tuesday at Pioneer Manor in Gillette. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. William Schaffner of First Christian Church in the chapel of the McColley Funeral Home.

Mrs. Portwood was born April 30, 1883 to Joseph and Sadie Erickson, in Iowa. She was married to Walter L. Portwood in Iowa on September 29, 1898. They lived in Iowa until 1907 when they moved to Wyoming to homestead.

The Portwoods lived in and around the Four Corners area until 1952 when he died. She moved to Buffalo for one year, making her home on the HF-Bar Ranch. For the next eight years she lived in Sheridan and then moved to Gillette.

Surviving are one daughter, Grace May, Gillette, 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, three sons and three grandsons.
