J.C. Murl Hawkins was born February 1, 1918 in Sweetwater, Oklahoma. He passed away February 18, 2011 in Amarillo, Texas at the age of 93. Memorial services were held March 5, 2011 at the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel officiated by Dr. G.A. Roach.
He is survived by his son Jimmy Hawkins and wife Teresa; daughter Kathy Jo Hawkins; step son Paul Richard Owen; granddaughter Christina Quinn and husband Mike; great grandson Connor Quinn; brother Dewitt Hawkins and a host of other relatives and friends.

J.C. Murl Hawkins, 93, of Amarillo died Friday, Feb. 18, 2011.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with Dr. G.A. Roach officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Mr. Hawkins was born Feb. 1, 1918, three and a half miles north of Sweetwater, Okla., in a one room cement house sitting on the shores of what is now known as Erick Lake. The first son of Claud and Alice Hawkins, J. C. grew up in Beckham County, Okla. He graduated from New Liberty where he was a member of the 1937 state basketball champions. He entered the United States Army Air Corp. on November 27, 1942 and was honorably discharged December 11, 1945. He married Melba K. Owen on March 20, 1954.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Kay and his sister, Wanda Bird.
Survivors include one brother, Dewitt Hawkins of Durham, OK; one son, Jimmy Hawkins and his wife Teresa of Denton, TX; one daughter, Kathy Jo Hawkins of Amarillo; a stepson, Paul Richard Owen on Amarillo; one grandson, Harrison of Denton, TX; one granddaughter, Christina Quinn and husband Mike of Edmond, Okla., one great grandson, Connor Quinn of Edmond, and other relatives and friends.
The family suggests memorials be made to a favorite charity.
