Claud Dewitt Hawkins was born September 2, 1925 to Claud & Alice Hawkins. He passed away on May 21, 2013 at St. Anthony's Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 87.
Dewitt grew up near Sayre, Oklahoma and moved with his family to Durham at an early age, where he met Marjorie Whitaker and they were married on September 20, 1947. They made their home northeast of Durham. Dewitt farmed and raised cattle, which he truly enjoyed, until about 5 years ago.
His mother Alice, pointed him toward Jesus by her lifestyle and songs. He was led to Jesus by Rev. C.J. Davis, an evangelist from Oklahoma City. He was saved in 1942. Baptized in 1947 and was ordained a deacon in 1950.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marjorie and one daughter Dee Etta.
He is survived by, 1 son, Kent Hawkins and wife, Diana of Weatherford, Oklahoma; 2 grandchildren, Karlee Isley of Weatherford, Oklahoma, Joel Hawkins and wife Alycia, Dallas, Texas; 1 great granddaughter, Jorynn; 1 great grandson, Van and another great grandson to arrive in September. He is also survived by a host of friends and other relatives.
Funeral services will be Thursday, May 23 at 10:00 AM at the Durham, Baptist Church with Bro. Darrell Moore and Bro. Ray Smart officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemtery, Durham, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Serice.
