Herbert L. Pierceall was born at home in Athens, Ill., on March 6, 1938, to Marshall and Alta Pierceall. After a valiant fight, he passed away Nov. 16, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center
.
His parents preceded him in death.

He married Martha (McCullough) in 1978; she cherishes every day of their 35 years of marriage.

Herb graduated from Athens High School and served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He retired as Produce Manager from Jewel after 35 years of service. He then worked an unplanned second career at Sears to support his love of tools.

Herb enjoyed breakfast at Ritz's, the Big Bang Theory, talking with his good buddy Ed, winning at cards, and a good piece of pie. He was a man of quantity whether grocery shopping, giving Christmas presents or his love for family and friends.

He savored time with his siblings: Rose (Kenneth, deceased), Linda (Delbert) Weidhuner, Betty Pierceall (deceased), Sharon (Charles) Mester, and Charles "Butch" (Linda) Pierceall. He loved his children: Nikki Baker and Tina Thornhill, Curtis and Nancy Baker, Kevin and Mary Baker, David (deceased) and Darcy Baker, and Michael and Tracy Pierceall. He felt blessed by his grandchildren: Zac, Rachel, C.J., Hannah, Zoe, Sam, Nic, Emma, Milo, Logan, Neko and Brandon. He cherished his numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.

The family appreciates the great care and compassion given to Herb by his amazing team of physicians and the special nursing staff at Memorial Medical Center.

To celebrate his life, there will be a memorial gathering at St. John's Lutheran Church in Springfield, Ill., on Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, from 4-7 p.m. Pastor Ladd Sonnenberg will conduct a funeral service at 4:30 p.m. in the sanctuary. The family will receive guests following the service. As per his wishes, cremation was accorded by Staab Funeral Home.

Herb's engaging smile and homespun wisdom will be missed.
