Kenneth A. Burd, Sr., 74, of Parks, passed away at 5 p.m., Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights. He was formerly of Buffalo Township.

Born in Sarver on Sept. 6, 1930, he was a son of the late James A. and Frone (Smith) Burd. A Korean War veteran, he served in the Air Force and was a member of the VFW in Harrison.

Prior to retiring in 1993, he worked in plant protection at Allegheny Ludlum Steel for 42 years. He enjoyed bowling and watching NASCAR and other types of auto racing.

Mr. Burd is survived by his wife of 11 years, Gwendolyn Wagner (Roxby) Burd; four daughters, Arlene Conaway, Brenda (William) Hank and Karen (Ronald) Thompson, all of Buffalo Township, and Sandy (Dale) Thompson of Butler; two sons, Kenneth A. (Sheila) Burd Jr. of Buffalo Township and Edward (Cynthia) Burd of Columbus, Mich.; three stepdaughters, Rose (Louis) Penvose and Myrna (Rick) Fitzgerald, both of Vandergrift, and Clema (Arlan) Martin of Apollo; three stepsons, Steve Flatt of New Kensington, James Johns of New York and Eugene Miller of Philadelphia; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, nine stepgrandchildren and seven stepgreat-grandchildren; and three sisters, Catherine Bicker of Grove City, Agnes Smith of Jefferson Township and Virginia Smith of Freeport.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and William Burd; three sisters, Elsie Wylie, Nancy "Ellen" Wylie and Hazel Koedel; and a step-grandson, Donald Joho Jr.

Friends and family will be received today, July 21, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. in the REDMOND FUNERAL HOME, Freeport, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 22. The Rev. Larry Swidzinski, a family friend, will officiate.

Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.
