Henry Washington Capps Sr.


Henry's brother, Pleasant fought with Company D, 10th Missouri Infantry, Confederate. No record of Henry's company is available. Henry and Pleasant were together at the Battle of Wilson's Creek which was fought August 10, 1861. Thousands of soldiers were killed and wounded at the battle including Henry Washington Capps. The commanding officer of the unit detailed Pleasant B.R. Capps to look after his brother as he lay seriously wounded. Pleasant stayed by Henry's side for 18 days until he passed away. Pleasant buried his brother Henry not far from the battlefield near Springfield, Missouri. The exact location of Henry's gravesite is not known.


He married Nancy N. Groom in 1840 in Carroll County, Tennessee.
