Gerald D. "Jerry" Wadding, age 82, of Findlay, died at 6:23am on Wednesday, February 21, 2018. He was born in a small coal mining town (McWilliams, Pa.) on March 12, 1935 to the late Don E. and D. Ruth (Clever) Wadding. He married Margaret I. "Margie" (Bair) Wadding on December 31, 1954 and she survives. Also surviving are sons: Roger (Sandy) Wadding and John Wadding, both of Findlay; daughter: Rhonda (John) Firestone also of Findlay. Jerry has 8 grandchildren: Daniel (Sara) Wadding, Corrina (Mike) Trumpy, Brenton (Tiffany)Firestone, Maggie (Steven) Ruggles, Annie Firestone, Caris (David) Lee, Kendra Wadding and Mitchell Wadding and 5 great grandchildren. Jerry was the patriarch of the family being the last living sibling, having lost his brothers: Stanley, Robert, Blaine, Donald, and Edward and his sisters: Maryellen Adamson and Kathryn Good. Jerry was an active member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church, where he served as a greeter. He served his country in the United States Air Force. Jerry retired in 1990, after 31 1/2 years as a foreman in the tire room at Cooper Tire and Rubber Company. In the 1970's and 1980's, Jerry was instrumental in the popularity of fast pitch and slow pitch softball in Findlay. He helped organize, play and manage numerous teams and his teams were always very successful. He enjoyed the game so much that he was actively playing until the age of 40. Anyone playing softball in those days will remember Jerry and his enthusiasm and dedication. Jerry also enjoyed fishing and was an avid hunter as well as a member of the Findlay Moose and VFW. He and Margie enjoyed wintering in Pine Island, Florida. Visitation will be held from 1-5pm on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME in Findlay, where funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Monday, February, 26, 2018. Pastor Jeffrey Motter will officiate and interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad.
