The Reading Eagle Newspaper carried her obituary February 9, 1901, page 1. As follows:
Emma Lotta Lash, died of pneumonia aged 13 years and 16 days, at the residence of her parents, 322 North 11th Street, after an week's illness. She was the daughter of the late George and Emma Lash and was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Bernhardt Schmidt when quite young. She was an usually bright child for her age and had a large circle of friends. She was a pupil in the Grammar School at 10th and Walnut Streets, taught by Miss Mary Yundt. These brothers and sisters survive: William of Brooklyn; George of Harrisburg; James of Reading; Mrs. John Good of this city; Mrs. Henry Schmidt of Phila., and Miss Mazie Schmidt of White Bear. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Sunday School.
