She was born on Jan. 26, 1938, in rural Strawn to Carl and Lydia Baer Aberle. She married James T. Byrd Jr. on June 22, 1958, in Fairbury. He survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Debra (Ken) Roth, Forrest; three sons, Steve (Colleen) Byrd, Roanoke; Brad (Barb) Byrd, Washburn; Matt (Marlise) Byrd, Washburn; four sisters, Elizabeth (Clarence) Culkin, Bloomington; Rose Huette, Bloomington; Ann (Roy) Maurer, Forrest; Lois (George) Fisher, Playa Del Rey, Calif.; three brothers, Rueben (Kathleen) Aberle, Brooksville, Fla.; Ezra (Judy) Aberle, Apache Junction, Ariz.; Harold Aberle, Chatsworth; 17 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
Leota worked at the local bank in Roanoke for 11 years.
Leota was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church in Roanoke, where her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
Church ministers will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home, Roanoke, and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Burial will be at the Apostolic Christian Cemetery, Roanoke.
