Rueben was born Aug. 4, 1923 in Strawn, Illinois to Carl and Lydia Aberle. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Elmer (Shirley), William (Jean) and Ezra (Judy) and sisters, Elizabeth (Clarence) Culkin and Leota (James) Byrd.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; daughters, Linda Aberle and Patricia (John) VandeMerkt; one grandson; two granddaughters; brother, Harold; sisters, Lois (George) Fisher, Ann (Roy) Mauer and Rose Huette and many loving nieces and nephews.
Reuben joined the U.S. Army Air Corps after high school.
When he returned home after the service, Reuben went to work for Caterpillar in Peoria. This led to a career with Patten Industries in Bellwood, then Elmhurst, suburbs of Chicago. He sold power generation systems that were installed into everything from locomotives to high-rise buildings, and even O'Hare airport. He was with Patten for more than 35 years. Always the salesman, when he retired he sold homes in Florida until 2005, when his disease made selling impossible.
