Sister Mercie was born in Pike County, Ky., June 12, 1922, the daughter of Flem Justice of Garden Village, Ky., and the late Vada Smith Justice. She departed this life August 2, 1982. She was married to the late Ertle Hunt and they were the proud parents of five lovely children: two daughters, Bonnie Sue Justice and Janice Kostyk, both of Laurel, Maryland; three sons, Billy Hunt of Biggs, Ky.; Sonny Hunt of Phyllis, Ky., and Ronnie Hunt of Louisville, Ky. She also leaves five grandchildren.
Sister Mercie joined the Primitive Baptist Church at Grapevine. She, along with Brother Ertle, were very active in the church, always willing and ready to do all they could to help. Many thorns and thistles sprung up and grew in her pathway, causing many heartaches and disappointments. She was a believer in Salvation by the Grace of God, and in her very last days talked so much about the goodness and mercy of the Lord. She longed to go to church again and mingle with the people of the church.
Other than her children and grandchildren, she leaves one brother, Taylor "Doc" Justice of Garden Village, Ky., and seven sisters, Sarah Jane Biliter of Peytons Creek, Ky.; Fannie Justice, Raccoon Ky.; Cleo Chaney, Clara Lee Ramey, Delphia Branham, Velma Childers and Teena Prater, all of Pikeville, Ky. She also leaves a host of relatives and friends. May God bless her children to look forward to a better day, when they will meet to part no more. She was a dear sister and a devoted, loving mother. We feel when the flowers of God shall bloom to fade no more, she will be a rose in that garden.
