Vernon Lee Witmer, 66, of Holtwood, entered into rest on Wednesday, February 7, 2018, at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Lloyd C. and Irene M. (Stoltzfus) Witmer. He is survived by his loving companion and best friend of over 30 years, Carol J. Witmer.

Vernon was a 1969 graduate of Solanco High School and went on to proudly serve in the U.S. Army in Korea, during the Vietnam War. Vernon was a professional truck driver, having driven for the former Pennfield Feeds for over 38 years. He had won numerous safe driving awards and was known to keep his truck meticulously clean. He was a member of the American Legion Post 194 in Rising Sun, MD. Vernon was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed horses, hunting, fishing and spending time in the mountains as a member of the Lazy 7 Hunting Camp. He was a muscle-car enthusiast and an active local "cruiser". Most of all, Vernon was a loving father and grandfather, who treasured the time he spent with his family.

In addition to Carol, he is survived by 3 children: Stacy, wife of Aaron Neely of Holtwood; Darryl, husband of Megan Witmer, of Pequea; and Ashley, wife of Matthew Tucker of Holtwood. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren: Ryan, Austin, Ayriana, and Christopher and siblings: Cindy (Glenn) Kendig, Jeff (Wanda) Witmer, and Brenda (Mike) Welk. Vernon was preceded in death by a brother, Ted and his wife, Judy Witmer, and a sister, Bonnie Amorosi.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the caring staff on 8 Lime at Lancaster General Hospital.
