Miss Irene T. Birge, 76, of 257 E. Merrill Ave., retired employee at St. Agnes Hospital, died at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Maple Manor Nursing and Retirement Home, following a lingering illness.
Miss Birge was born April 7, 1891, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of John L. and Theodosia Sampson Birge. She began working at St. Agnes Convent June 1, 1930, and served as night switchboard operator at St. Agnes Hospital from 1931 until retirement in 1958.
Miss Birge is survived by nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Zacherl Funeral Home, Rt. Rev. Msgr. Henry A. Maurer officiating.
Burial will be in Rienzi Cemetery. The body is in state at the funeral home.
