John "Johnnie" was the son of John Leandos Birge and Theodosia Alden Sampson Birge. He was also the brother
of Mary "Matie"L , Charles Leander , Henry Julius, Bertha, Irene and George Preston who died an infant.
He was the youngest conductor of the railroad, but met

Jack Birge Meets with a Fatal Accident
Loses both of his legs
Charles Birge receives message summoning him to his
brother who can not live.
Charles Birge, yard master for the Chicago &
Northwestern Railroad Co at this city, received
a message this morning from his brother Henry at Minneapolis stating that their youngest brother
Jack, had been run over by a train at tha city and
both legs cut off.
He was a conductor on the Chicago, Milwaukee &
St Paul railway and was at work for that company
at the time he was run down. He is a young man,
unmarried.
The message received her further stated he
could not live. Mr Birge left immediately for
Minneapolis.

DIES OF INJURIES
JOHN BIRGE LIVED, BUT SHORT TIME AFTER BEING
FATALLY HURT
John Birge , 24 years old, who was run over
at Minneapolis Tuesday had both legs being
severed died soon after. He was a brother
of Mrs Henry Schlichting Jr, of Sheboygan Falls
and Charles Birge of this city.

The funeral of John L Birge will be held
tomorrow afternoon at half past two o’clock
from the home of his brother at 504 South
Fourteenth St. Rev. David Thomas of the First
Congregational Church will officiate and the
interment will be made in Wildwood Cemetery.
The young man was to have been married next month.
