Francis married Nancy Caroline Milford on December 29, 1843 in Marshall County, Alabama. It's believed he was an overseer on a plantation near the Long Cane River in South Carolina for a short period. He and Nancy moved to Texas about 1850. They had nine children-John Thomas, Frances J. (or T.),Easter (Esther) Ann, James Harvey "Jim", Lawrence Laayette, Rachel Alabama "Bama", America Clementine "Aunt Merki", Francis "Frank", and Joseph Richard.
