John was born to William Wedgeworth, Sr. and Esther Mathews Wedgeworth in 1789 in Abbeville, SC.
John married Rachel Scott (b. 1795 d. 1841) but no marriage date is available. They had five chidren: Joseph M (b. 1805), Richard, (b. 1808 d. around 1850),Francis (b. 2/18/1818 d. 10/30/1879) and Esther (b. 1822 no death date known).
John was in the Youngblood's Regiment of the South Carolina Militia during the War of 1812.
John was the first Wedgeworth to be interred in a cemetery in the South. He died September 11, 1824 and is buried at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Greene (now Hale) County, Alabama.
Not much is known about his wife, Rachel. Info on her taken from a will in 1841 from Greene County, AL. The will names the children.
