Mr. James Pratt "J.P." Barnard, Jr., 93 of Patterson, passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at Satilla Bluffs Senior Care.

Born in Patterson, GA and a son of the late James Pratt & Miriam Dixon Barnard, Sr. ; also preceded in death by the love of his life for over 69 years, Martha Claire "Miss Tiny" Martin Barnard;
his son, Joseph Pratt "Petesy" Barnard; a sister, Thedius Deloach Clough; and by his brother, Jasper Bernard Barnard.

He had lived in Patterson all his life.
Mr. Barnard was a Patterson High School graduate and went on to be the owner/operator of The Barnard Company as well as Barnard Construction Company. Born during the Depression era, Mr. Barnard learned what hard work was at an early age and it was this characteristic that carried on throughout his lifetime.

Mr. Barnard was a former Mayor and City Council member for the City of Patterson and was a former board member for The Patterson Bank and later for First Southern Bank in Patterson.
He was a member of the Patterson Lion's Club and was the Pierce County Citizen of the Year in 2020. Mr. Barnard was a Christian and was a member of the Patterson Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.
To quote a family friend, "To have been such a small man of statue, he was a GIANT in the eyes of many. What stands out about this quintessential Southern gentleman is his love of the Lord, his commitment, his service to our church, his dedication, and his immense generosity in renovations and building projects at Patterson Baptist.
To have been so successful in the business world, he remained a humble and kind man. It has been an honor knowing this truly remarkable Christian man. He walked the walk." There's no better way to describe him.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Mary Claire & Duward Boatright of Bristol;
five grandchildren,
Reese Barnard, Rhett (Denise) Barnard, Duward (Nancy) Boatright, Barrett (Candace) Boatright, and Claire Boatright;
five great grandchildren,
Duward Boatright, III, Ruthie Boatright, Boone Boatright, Shaw Barnard, and Billee Claire Boatright;
