J. P. Barnard of Patterson Passes Away
PATTERSON - James Pratt Barnard, 65, a former mayor of Patterson, died Monday at Memorial Hospital of Waycross after a long illness.
The native of Pierce County was a member of the Patterson Baptist Church and the church board of deacons. He was a general building contractor and a member of the Patterson Lions Club, The Patterson Masonic Lodge. He had served on the city council.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Marian Dixon Barnard of Patterson, two daughters, Mrs Louis Stanfield and Mrs. D. E. Loach of Patterson; two sons, J. P. Barnard Jr. of Patterson and Bernard Barnard of Brunswick; four sisters, Mrs. Mattie Walker and Mrs. Rabbie Boyett of Patterson, Mrs. Irene Sylvester and Mrs. Maude Bullard of Brunswick; two half sisters, Mrs. Collene Simmons of Baldwin, Fla., and Mrs. Melba Simmons of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; a brother, Ward Barnard of Patterson; a half brother, Gerald Barnard of Baldwin, Fla., 12 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a. m. Wednesday at Patterson Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Patterson cemetery.
