Jimmie E. “Jay” Brackner

MCCALLA – Jimmie E. "Jay" Brackner, Sr., age 88, of McCalla, Ala., died January 18, 2018, in Northport, Ala. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, January 22, 2018, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Glover officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Tina Brackner; daughter, Karen Reed; and daughter-in-law, Bonnie Brackner.

Survivors include his wife, Flossie Chastain Brackner of McCalla, Ala.; son, Jimmie Brackner, Jr. (Nancy) of Vance, Ala.; son-in-law, Wayne Reed of Brookwood, Ala.; grandchildren, Christy Herron (Kevin) of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Alecia Price (Johnny) of Brookwood, Ala., Kimberly Brackner of Northport, and Allison Brackner (Josh) of West Blocton, Ala.; and great-grandchildren, Alexa Herron, Emma Price, Ella Price, Caden Herron and Raegan Wells.

Jay Brackner, more affectionately known as "Paw Paw", went to his heavenly home on January 18, 2018.

He was a veteran of the Korean War and earned several medals including the Purple Heart. He recognized the importance of hard work and dedication as is evident throughout his life.

Married for 68 years at the time of his death, Jay and Flossie, his loving wife, set an example for all other couples and marriages by placing God first. They always told each other that they loved one another and their love was indisputable.

Jay was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. While he will be missed, we rejoice in knowing that he is completely healed.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Herron, Johnny Price, Johnny Price, Sr., Kenny Herring, Austin Herring, Chuck Garrison and Caden Herron.

Honorary pallbearers are members of Hepzibah Baptist Church and the staff of Forest Manor Rehab and Nursing Home.

In lieu of flowers, please consider taking time to pray, telling others that you love them and spending time with your family.
