Ray D. Allen Soultz, 75, Marion, died at 4:35 a.m. on Friday, January 19, 2018 in the Marion Rehabilitation and Assisted Living Center, Marion. He was born in Jonesboro, on July 4, 1942 to the late Paul R. and Edna E. (Ault) Soultz and was a life-long resident of Jonesboro. Ray married Rebecca Stierer on June 1, 1962 and she survives.
Ray proudly served as a volunteer for the Jonesboro Fire Department for 50 years, where he worked countless hours and served in may capacities, including Chief and Assistant Chief. He played an integral part in building the current Jonesboro Fire Station. Ray worked at the Twin City Foundry, Ball-Foster, and retired as a millwright with Local 1029 out of Warsaw, Indiana.
He enjoyed fishing, cheering on his grandchildren in their various activities, weekends at the lakes, and giving cycle rides. One of Ray's favorite days was "Grandparent's Day" at the grandkids' schools. He never missed a performance or ceremony for his grandchildren. He also volunteered for the Boy Scouts for several years. Ray was often referred to as "Uncle Whiskers" by his 48 nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Becky, Ray is survived by his daughter, Susie (Mike) Head, Summitville; son, Jeff (Michele) Soultz, Carmel; brothers, Dale (Lesta) Soultz and Ron (Cathy) Soultz, both of Jonesboro; sisters, Marge Randolph and Phyllis Hosier, both of Jonesboro, Marilyn Miller, Windfall; Janet Eckert, Mishawaka and Beverly (Loy) Bittle, Heber Springs, Arkansas; grandchildren, Anthony (Shayla Linker) Head, Huntington, Keshia Head, Lebanon, Megan Soultz and Taylor Soultz, both of Carmel; great-granddaughter, Brynleigh Head and a great-grandson on the way in March; brother-in-law, Kent Stierer, Port St. Lucie, Florida; sisters-in-law, Ellen Soultz, Jonesboro and Wilma Jean Soultz, Fairmount
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Paul R. and Edna Soultz; brothers, J. Phillip Soultz and Chuck Soultz; sisters, Frances Maynard and Lois Bogear; brothers-in-law, Bob Randolph, Dave Hosier, Bob Eckert, Ed Miller, Ron Bogear and Bob Maynard; granddaughter, Cortney Soultz; Cortney

The family will receive visitors from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, Indiana.
A funeral service to celebrate Ray's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at the funeral home with Rev. Al Soultz officiating. Burial will be held at Riverside Cemetery.
