Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 13, 2017 at 10:00 am in Gossen Funeral Home Chapel in Rayne, LA for Charles "CJ" Joseph Melancon, 87, who died Wednesday October 11, 2017 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette, LA.

Interment will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery #2 in Rayne, LA.

Rev. Kevin Bordelon, Pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rayne LA will be the Celebrant of the and will conduct the funeral services.

CJ was retired from the Louisiana State Police after 20 years, and was a member of Louisiana State Troopers Association. He then went on to work in the oilfield for various service companies and retired in 2015 with Stabil Drill. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, V.F.W.,and “The Forty & Eight” an elite military veterans organization.

Survivors include two sons, Tim Melancon and wife Nina of Lafayette, Shannon Melancon of Lafayette, granddaughter, Timi Clair Wadleigh and husband Kristian of Lafayette, grandson, Timothy "Ty" Melancon, Jr. of Baton Rouge, great granddaughter, Kristian Clair Wadleigh of Lafayette, four sisters, Leona Quibodeaux of Rayne, Joann Faucheaux of Mire, Enola Duhon and husband Terry of Mire, Maria Mouton and husband Larry of Mire.

He was preceded in death by wife, Mary Lee Meche Melancon, parents, Eddie Melancon, Sr. and Irene Arceneaux Melancon, brother, Eddie Melancon, Jr..

Pallbearers will be Ty Melancon, Kristian Wadleigh, Truett Duhon, Joey Faucheaux, Ricky Quibodeaux, and Lonny Melancon. Honorary pallbearer will be Myron Meche.
