Her obituary which appeared in the Crowley Post Signal on 17 April 1990 reads: Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Joseph Catholic Church for Irene Melancon, 79, who died Saturday at 4 a.m. at Rayne-Branch Hospital. Burial followed in the church cemetery. She is survived by two sons, C. J. and Eddie “June” Melancon, both of Rayne; four daughters, Leona Quibodeaux, Joanne Faucheaux, Enola Duhon and Merita Mouton, all of Rayne; one brother, Herbie Arceneaux of Rayne; three sisters, Audrey Alleman of Sulphur, Freida Bourque of Crowley and Polly Stelly of Rayne, and 18 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Melancon Sr., three grandsons, Rod Melancon, Dwayne and Perry Faucheaux. Gossen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
