Shaefer
Octavia Jessee, daughter of Laura J. and George T. Jessee, was born in Russell county, Virginia on November 18, 1869, and departed this life in her home on Sunday morning January 14, 1968, at the age of 98 years, 1 month and 27 days.
At the age of 7, she with her parents moved by way of covered wagon to Kansas where they located on a farm west of Centralia. There in her parents home she grew to young womanhood, getting her education in the country schools of the prairie state.

On April 25, 1889 she was married to John M. Shaefer. They built their farm home southwest of Centralia. In this home they raised their four children, George, Lillian, Grace and Mattie. In 1928 they moved to Centralia to care for her mother.
Mrs. Shaefer united with the Methodist church of Centralia on January 20, 1896 under the ministry of Rev. John Cook and she lived true to her faith all through her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her son George, a daughter, Lillian, her parents, two brothers and five sisters.
She leaves to mourn her passing a sister, Mrs. Mattie Birchfield, Los Angeles, California; two daughters, Mrs. Grace Lohmuller and Mrs. Mattie Blair, and a son-in-law, Raymond Blair, all of Centralia; seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and friends.
Her cheery disposition and loving smile will be greatly missed by those who loved her dearly.

Funeral services were held in the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon conducted by Rev. Larry Bowyer. Mrs. William Warren and Mrs. John Young sang "Abide With Me" and "In the Garden" accompanied by Mrs. O.E. McClary.
Casketbearers were Duane Ice, Lloyd Shaefer, Leonard Harden, Reginald Ayers, Virgil Kelley and Lloyd Smith.
