"Vernie Elzora (Stacy) Wilson"
Grandma was born January 24, 1916 in the Township of Texas in Cotton County, Oklahoma to James and Julia (Crouch) Stacy. Her Mother and Dad lived in Temple, Oklahoma which was about 6 miles North by North East of Texas, Oklahoma. Grandma was delivered by the same doctor as her brother Cecil (C.F. House M.D). She was named after one of her father's sisters, Effie Elzora Stacy. Her parents had a strong Christian belief and raised their children in the same manner. Grandma Baptized Grandpa (Ernest Benton Wilson) and his friend Paul Smith in 1930 at The San Juan River in Aztec, New Mexico and married him November 22, 1932 in Alamosa, Colorado. She took her children and grandchildren with her to Church. Grandma held Bible study in her home for her friends and family. She also volunteered at The Chaplains Office at Valley Medical Center in Fresno, California.
Grandma had been a housewife most of her married life. She did work for Hovden Foods for a short period of time when the family lived in Monterey, California. In late 1946 she worked for The Merced Hospital in the Dietetic department. She would take her children to the park across the street from the hospital, so when she could, she would look out the window to check on them, plus her oldest daughter Wanda was there to watch the other three kids. In 1947 Grandma, Grandpa and their children moved to Fresno, California.
On January 31, 1951 Grandma received her diploma from The Wayne School of Practical Nursing Correspondence Course. On January 18, 1974 she completed 164 hours of instruction in a course in Health Aide Training from Clovis Adult School and in turn became a member of The California Practical Nurses Association Inc. on April 10, 1974.
On November 20, 1982 Grandma and Grandpa celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary surrounded by their family and friends. Grandma loved to quilt, this was something she learned as a child from her Mother and sister Viola. Grandma and Grandpa both loved to fish and go deer hunting. They also loved to go camping. Grandma loved canning fruits and vegetables. She stored the finished jars on the basement shelves. Grandma had a green thumb I think her favorites were her Camellia's, she would take those to The Fresno Fair and enter them in The Central California Camellia Show, Grandma won a number of awards for her flowers.
Among her ailments, Grandma was an insulin dependent diabetic and had been legally blind for many years. She also kept a small container of nitroglycerin safety pinned to her blouse.
Grandma passed away on July 12, 1996 in Kellogg, Idaho. Survived by 5 children, 17 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 1 sister Ludie Collier and numerous nieces & nephews.
